vows renewal

It’s a trend that is sweeping the nation! Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon did it just one hour after the birth of their twins. Brooke Burke & David Charvet waited a month after they got married to do it all over again & it’s an annual affair for Heidi Klum and Seal, who re-celebrated their ‘I do’s’ again on a beach in Mexico this year.

Do it all over again with a renewal of vows.

We are seeing a trend where couples are returning to the same idyllic location where they said their "I DO's", to re-commit their relationship with a Renewal of Vows.

Sometimes couples renew their vows simply because they want to share the moment of marriage with family and friends as they were not able to the first time round. And doing this in a spectacular location such as Jamaica, Mexico or the Bahamas, makes it even more special.

There are no said ‘rules’ when it comes to renewing your vows. 10, 25, and 50 years certainly is cause for celebration, but you don’t have to wait for a milestone year in your lives.

The idea is basically to exchange your vows the same as you did on your wedding day. You may want to recite the same words, maybe create new ones or say “I love you more today than I did on our wedding day” – as corny as it is, the sentiment is real. Then, after the ceremony, it’s the exchange of rings.

It could be your original bands engraved with the date of your renewals with some cute comment like ‘to be continued’ or maybe even splurge for new rings! Typically after the ceremony, it’s time to relax and have some fun with your guests. Often couples have weddings that are heavily influenced by their parents and are not always the way ‘they’ would like it, but tend to make decisions to satisfy others. Remember, in a vow renewal, you can do want you want – so do it your way.

Is it legal? Since you have the marriage license and are already ‘legal’, a renewal of vows does not require any additional paperwork nor does the ceremony have to be officiated by a recognized authority. Couples are free to choose who will preside over their event, whether it be a priest, minister, notary public or having a family member or close friend do the honours.

Whether it is on the mystical Mayan beaches of Mexico overlooking the fabulous surreal blue waters, a Hawaiian island with the Gods watching over you, or as far away as Tahiti and experiencing an overwater bungalow, you can repeat your vows once again.

I would encourage all of you – newlyweds and those that have been married for years to celebrate by renewing your vows in a destination that is perfect for you. This will make a wonderful and very memorable event to last you a lifetime.

Many resorts offer “free vow renewal” packages with a minimum amount of rooms booked at their resort. Just contact me or any of our DestinationVows Specialists for all the details!
