How long have you been planning destination weddings?
I became a travel agent 13 years ago with the intention of specializing in Destination Weddings & Honeymoons. What is more romantic and special than helping a couple plan the most important holiday & event of their lives together?
Why did you choose to become a Destination Wedding Specialist?
Thirteen years ago, I had a friend who planned her own destination wedding with the help of a travel agent. Unfortunately the bride spent the day in tears, the resort turned a blind eye, and the travel agent did not have enough experience in weddings to have helped avoid the situation in the first place. Right then and there I said to myself “you can do this!” and 13 years later, here I am having helped countless couples plan their dream day.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
My favourite part of the job is sharing ideas with my brides-to-be. I planned my own destination wedding two years ago (it was fantastic!) and have since had a wealth of ideas and tips to share to help make my brides’ day more unique and special for them.
Which destination is your favorite and why?
I am partial to the Mayan Riviera in Mexico…of course, I was married on the beach near Playa Del Carmen. This destination is so beautiful and diverse and is perfect if you have a group of guests joining you. There is something for everyone to do with a multitude of tours & great shopping, and many beautiful hotels to fit any budget.
Do you have a story you’d like to share with us?
One of the first weddings I planned back in 2001 had a large group of 40 guests flying from Calgary and Edmonton. One day before they were to depart Canada for Cancun, the airline filed for bankruptcy, essentially leaving the entire group stranded without a way to get to their wedding! With a lot of determination and more than a few tears, I managed to ‘save the day’ and re-book everyone to depart a day later, the wedding went off without a hitch, and the couple now lives happily ever after!

Trust in your travel agent’s advice and guidance in choosing the right resort for you. And also trust in your resort Wedding Coordinator…they plan hundreds of weddings of all types & sizes and really know what they are doing!
