How long have you been planning destination weddings?
I have been a Travel/Group/Destination Wedding specialist for the past 15 yrs.
Why did you choose to become a Destination Wedding Specialist?
I love the excitement surrounding the bride and groom to be. This is one of the most special days of a couple’s life and to be part of making their dream wedding come true is a privilege.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is meeting the couple and creating wedding dreams that come true. I also love the part when they come home and I get to hear how fantastic their wedding was and all the fun they and their guest had, I get to contribute a big part of this and I love that. I work very closely with couples who forever become part of my heart.
Which destination is your favorite & why?
I have no particular favorite, I love Europe but I also love the Sun and Beach. I like to pick resorts that have superior service.
Do you have a wedding story you would like to share with us?
I just recently planned a Destination Wedding at Dreams Tulum, all the guests contributed to the Bride and Grooms Wedding and Travel expenses. When the time came for them to pay the balance of their vacation I had a big beautiful card with all the guests and friends names inside letting them know that all their expenses had been paid through the gift registry. They couldn’t believe it, they not only had their dream wedding but they had a huge amount of extra money that they put towards a deposit on their first home.
Do you have any quick tips for us?
- When planning a Destination Wedding you have to be prepared that these are not typically your traditional type weddings. Not all your guests on your guest list will be able to attend so you must not take this personally. Destination Weddings are intimate and usually only your very close friends and immediate family will attend.
- Always, Always use a Destination Wedding Specialist. This is a time in a Bride and Groom’s life when the focus should be on each other and the joys of their special day not worrying about the small details, (that’s our job).
- Plan way in advance so you get exactly what you dream a wedding to be and it also gives all your guests time to plan their vacations and save some money.
- Try to find a middle ground of affordability creating a wedding budget that your guests can afford.
- Send your favorite items and some decorations ahead to the resort…you can save yourself all kinds of money by doing this..(we can help you make these arrangements).
- Most Destination Weddings are in hot climates, make sure the wedding dress and clothing you choose will work well in the climate of your destination.
- Start a travel gift registry..most guest are going to give you a gift, why not have your wedding and or honeymoon gifted to you.
- Pick a Destination Wedding Specialist you feel comfortable and can work closely with.
- Make sure you know all the details..eg. most wedding photography packages at the resorts only give you a handful of pictures, so it’s a wise investment to maybe bring your photographer.
Most importantly have fun with your plans and when you arrive at your destination leave all the details in the hands of your Destination Wedding Specialist and the your onsite Wedding Coordinator, just relax, have fun and create memories that you, your family and friends will cherish for a lifetime.
Last but not least..Don’t stress over the small stuff!!!!
