How long have you been planning destination weddings?
I have been a travel agent, on the side of leisure travel, since 1985 and started planning weddings over the last 7 years. I found that a lot of my clients were interested in “running away” to get married and I wanted to make their destination wedding a romantic, yet unique, event.
Why did you choose to become a Destination Wedding Specialist?
I absolutely love working with the bride and groom to discover the perfect destination that will suit, not only them, but will include their entire family and friends to create amazing memories that will last a lifetime. There is definitely something special in the process of making couples’ dreams come true.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
I love the camaraderie that develops between the bride and groom and myself! The more I get to know them, the more I can tailor their plans to suit them and make their dreams come true.
Which destination is your favorite and why?
Personally, I absolutely love Samana in the Domincan Republic. White sandy beaches, cool azure waters, balmy Caribbean nights! Imagine getting married on the beach of a private island where yours is the only hotel!
What’s the most exotic location that you’ve planned a wedding in?
I planned a wedding to Samana at a resort that was new to the Canadian market and to wedding planning. The resort fell over themselves to make this wedding a very special event for my clients and their guests. The bride and groom were treated like a king and queen and recommended both my services and the resort to several future wedding parties.
What’s your personal philosophy on love?
A famous man once said: "Love is an ideal thing, marriage a real thing."
Do you have a story you’d like to share with us?
I once planned a wedding where the bride ordered her dress on the internet from Singapore. The dress was gorgeous and cost her $100! She is the most unique person I have ever met. Her entire wedding was so joyous and fun and there was not a stressful moment during the year it took to plan her special day! She is now expecting her first baby!
Do you have a quick tip for us?
Don’t stress out! Think “island time”! It will all come together when you’re standing barefoot on the beach, staring into each other’s eyes!
