10 Great Tips from our
Destination Wedding Specialists

Our DestinationVows Specialists have helped hundreds of couples plan their destination wedding and along the way, have picked up a few tips to keep stress levels cool and calm during pre-destination wedding planning.  Here are some of their favourite tips!

Start planning as soon as possible! And remember to give your guests and yourselves enough time to make all the necessary arrangements. This is your wedding, so have fun with it. Make sure you get everything you have ever dreamed of!

JULIET GAZSI – Cruise Connections, Vancouver, BC
Let your Wedding Specialist do all the worrying for you. Just enjoy your special day! The memories of that day will be with you forever.

NELLIE SNOW – White Rock Travel, White Rock, BC
My best tip? Plan early! Most resorts do a limited number of weddings per day and you want to be able to choose your date, time and venue. And finally, choose an agent you have confidence in, someone who is going to be there for you in the ensuing months after you have made your choices.

Choose a good travel consultant that you can work with, who will listen to you and who has experience with destination weddings. Sometimes guests don’t always cooperate as far as booking their travel within the provided deadlines, so start with 10 – 20 people and go from there, instead of trying to form a larger group. From my experience, when you start with the expectation that you will have 80 people on the beach with you for your nuptials, the reality is that you will likely end up with a much smaller number.

When planning a destination wedding you have to sit back and enjoy. The whole idea is for you to enjoy the process and not stress about the ‘little things’. Destination weddings really are seamless once you arrive at your destination. And don’t forget to plan early!

CASSSANDRA VAN BENTHEM – Bravo Travel, Hamilton, ON
Make sure you check out all of the required documents and legal requirements for the destination you choose to marry at. Having all in order, saves time down the road.

Your destination wedding should be a getaway for you and your partner. Let some things go and don’t get too caught up in the little details. Enjoy your special time away and as they say, “don’t sweat the small stuff”!

Sherry_DieksSHERRY DIEKS – Collacutt Travel, Toronto, ON
Stay out of the sun the day prior to your wedding... and NO SUN GLASSES either!!!! You do not want to be sun burned or have raccoon eyes for pictures!

Lorie_PartridgeLORI PARTRIDGE – Kemp Travel, Oshawa, ON
I always tell my brides and grooms that once they have picked their date and destination, they should invite who they would like to come to the wedding, but don't stress out on who actually attends. It is their day and as long as they and the most important people in their lives are there, that is all that matters. Everyone they invite will have an opinion but theirs is the only one that counts.
