How long have you been planning destination weddings?
I’ve been a Professional Travel Consultant for 30 years and have helped many couples plan their dream destination weddings throughout the years.
Why did you choose to become a Destination Wedding Specialist?
The popularity of destination weddings has increased so much in the last 5 years that I decided it would be a great niche market to become involved in.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
It’s exciting to hear about couples becoming engaged and wanting to get married in an exotic destination. I love making suggestions as to where and how they will get married. Once that is decided, the rest just falls into place.
Which destination is your favorite and why?
There are so many beautiful locations to choose from but I must say that anywhere in the Caribbean would be my favourite. My second favourite is Hawaii.
What’s the most exotic location that you’ve planned a wedding in?
I once had a couple tie the knot in Italy. It was so romantic and the locals welcomed them with open arms. They spent their honeymoon in Rome, Amalfi coast, Venice, and Tuscany where they enjoyed hiking/cycling, attended cooking classes, wine and olive oil tastings, and exploring.
Do you have a story you’d like to share with us?
I actually planned my own wedding. I really wanted to get married in Hawaii but realized that most of our guests would not be able to attend so I decided on choosing a destination that was closer. It was in Las Vegas. I really wanted a tropical wedding so after researching many venues, I decided on the Island Wedding Chapel. It was perfect! The chapel was an A-frame building with floor to ceiling windows. The inside was all bamboo wood with tropical plants and flowers. Palm trees surrounded the outside of the chapel and you had to cross an arch shaped wooden bridge where you could hear flowing waterfalls as you approached the entrance. We got married at sunset so it was perfect for photos. After the wedding ceremony we had our dinner and reception at the hotel in one of their banquet rooms. It was so much fun planning my own wedding and my family and friends had such a fantastic time. They not only attended my wedding but had a mini vacation in the end. I would not have done it any other way!

After searching around with other travel agents / centre's in Calgary we finally found Buffy, someone we felt understood our needs who we also felt we could trust. She booked our wedding trip with a guest list of 30 individuals (no easy task) from around Western Canada without any issues or concerns. We booked a few months in advance so didn't have a lot to figure out with Buffy when departure date was close. Nonetheless, Buffy was ever so thoughtful and had a town car take my fiance and I to the airport VERY early the morning of our departure date. We are ever so grateful.
