How long have you been planning destination weddings?
Over 10 years
Why did you choose to become a Destination Wedding Specialist?
I saw the need to help guide the wedding couple in planning a wedding to remember and cherish together or with family and friends. I get many couples coming into my office that are so confused about planning a destination wedding. It is up to me to help them choose a destination that will suit their needs, wants and of course, their budget. Sometimes, the wedding couple is not even aware of destinations around the world that would be a perfect fit for them.
What's your favorite part of the job?
Taking the stress away from the bride & groom, as planning a wedding and putting everything into place can be difficult. I take on that role by planning their destination wedding, putting them in contact with a local wedding coordinator, who will assist them in choosing the location for their wedding vows, wedding photographer, etc, and taking care of any special requests. They really do appreciate it. It allows the bride and groom to focus on their everyday lives, knowing their travel professional is handling their destination wedding plans.
Which destination is your favorite and why?
Greece is by far my favorite destination. The people, the culture, the unbelievable beauty with the blue ocean back drop, the unique structures, makes for a perfect destination to get married in and enjoy a memorable honeymoon. I was in Greece recently and in both Santorini and Mykonos, saw a few wedding ceremonies taking place. The whitewashed buildings, with the blue domed roofs and the beautiful blue ocean in the background was just breath taking.
Do you have a wedding story you would you would like to share with us?
Two years ago, I planned a wedding for a group of 54 guests, including the bride and groom, to Cabo San Lucas. The bride to be was so excited about showing me her wedding dress that she brought it to the office. She had just picked it up from the bridal boutique after all alterations were made and wanted me to be the first person to see it. I was very touched and that will stay with me forever.
Do you have any quick tips for us?
When helping plan a destination wedding, really try and get to know the bride and groom. Send them notes or messages once in a while with tips on the area that they have chosen for their destination wedding and let them know that you are available to answer any questions they may have, even it seems trivial to them. When you do get to know them, you can make requests, on their behalf, to the resort, hotel or airline ahead of time. They will thank you for these little things that you do. It lets your clients know that you are thinking of them and helping to make their vacation a memorable one.
