How long have you been planning destination weddings?
Over 2 years - I truly enjoy keeping up with hotels on what they offer for Weddings and services.
Why did you choose to become a Destination Wedding Specialist?
Well, it all started when I had my very own destination wedding in Maui and those lifelong memories have always stayed close to my heart. I also enjoy working with wedding groups and its a huge favorite because you work so close with the Bride and Groom - inevitably becoming very good friends (I have received invites from couples in the past to attend a destination wedding). I love to “picture” the wedding and make ideas into a reality.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Working with the Bride and Groom (and parents) to decide best location and hotel to suit all needs for them and their guests. -Design the invitation to send out to guests (email) (for booking a destination wedding) -Set up with the Wedding coordinator/coordination of information
Which destination is your favorite & why?
Jamaica – have visited several hotels in destination including Couples, RIU and Sandals Each hotel did a mach wedding for us - the beach, food and presentation was the best I had seen.
Do you have a wedding story you would like to share with us?
It was a renewal of vows - The husband came to see me as he wanted to surprise his wife for their 25th Wedding Anniversary. After much research he decided on a sunset service on the beach at The Turtle Resort in Honolulu - after the vows ceremony they released white doves. She had White and Purple Orchids for her bouquet…and her husband surprised her with an authentic Hawaiian wedding band. They incorporated a cruise around the islands during their visit. When the couple returned she came in to thank me and started to cry - this happened over 2 years ago and to this day I get goose bumps thinking about it!
Do you have any quick tips for us?
For the Bride and Groom - always book a higher category for their room (you’ll receive a nicer upgrade) Plan your destination wedding well in advance - wedding times book out quickly, especially a sunset wedding. Get a good photographer - the saying “a picture says a thousand words” is very true!
